Over the past 26 years, the Fairfax County Volunteer Service Awards have served as a community-wide celebration of volunteerism. Hosted by Volunteer Fairfax, the awards honor individuals, groups and organizations that have given outstanding volunteer service through a broad range of activities and programs.
UCM's volunteer award nominees were our honored guests at the April 13 recognition breakfast with the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors and other community leaders. Meet the UCM volunteers nominated for the 2018 Fairfax County Volunteer Service Awards:
Eileen Friedman – UCM Early Learning Center

Eileen has volunteered in the Infant 1 classroom for several years. She directly affects the students and staff with her positive outlook and big smile, assisting with daily responsibilities and operations. “Eileen has made a real difference in our ELC community,” says Torria Baker, Center Director. “Our daily operations would not be the same without her. Vonnetta "Von" Jones - Stepping Stones
Category: Adult Volunteer 250 Hours & Over
Von Jones has been a faithful, full-time volunteer with UCM since October 2017. There have been days where we would not have been able to open the Food Pantry without her amazing support. Von takes her responsibilities far beyond sorting and distributing food. Her spirit brightens the mood of the room as she treats clients with dignity and respect, and motivates and trains our new volunteers to do the same. We are so proud and honored to have her as a part of our team.
