Donations are received Monday - Saturday 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. at the Back Porch Thrift Store located at 7838 Richmond Highway, Alexandria, VA 22306 (in the Crossroads Shopping Center next to A.J. Wrights). For our pickup schedule and more information please call 703-799-3832.
The Back Porch Thrift Store welcomes the donation of items in good, gently used and working condition. If you are unsure whether an item fits this criteria, a good rule of thumb is to ask yourself, "Would I give this to someone I know?" or "Would I buy this item in this condition?"
UCM and the Back Porch do not set a valuation on your donation. That is the privilege and responsibility of the donor. For professional advice, please consult your tax advisor.
The following programs have an immediate need for volunteers:
Food Pantry
Monday-Friday 9:00 am – 5:00 pm
During this time we will be stocking shelves, assembling food bags for clients, breaking down bulk food items into family sized portions, etc.
Bryant Early Learning Center (BEL)
Volunteers to help with the infants and toddlers Monday- Friday Flexible times. You may pick the age group you wish to work with. A criminal background check and TB test is required, Fee involved.
Workforce Development Center
Volunteers to assist clients in the computer lab with basic computer skills and to man the front desk. We also need volunteers to teach a computer class.
Volunteer Opportunities Available Throughout The Year:

| Help with the Sunday Share Food Program |
| Coordinate a "Fresh Beginnings Closet" Drive |
| Host an event such as a "Theme" dinner, concert, fashion show, movie night, book or plant sales event or other events to benefit UCM |
| Purchase and pack basic baby supplies into diaper bags for the Healthy Families Program |
| Assist as an aide at the Back Porch Thrift Store |
| Conduct a Help-the-Homeless mini-walk (October/November) |
| Collect holiday toys, books, gloves, hats and other gifts for the Holiday Program |
| Holiday Gift room escorts and sorters (December) |
| Sort and box food from Boys Scout Food Drive (November) |
