The Sacramento Neighborhood Center (SNC) is a
partnership
between United Community Ministries, Inc., Department of Community
& Recreation Services, Mt. Vernon Police Department, Woodlawn Fire
& Rescue, local schools, businesses, the faith community and the
residents of the Sacramento community.
SNC serves as a “hub” for residents in the Sacramento
community. It is conveniently located in the Sacramento Center and is
close to the Metro bus stop on Route #1, and the Fairfax Connector on
Sacramento Drive. Utilizing the talents and strengths of the community,
SNC provides residents with a safe place to meet.
The Center provides the Fairfax County Neighborhood
Patrol
with an established presence in the community, facilitating the
development of positive relationships between youth and police. The
Computer Learning Center Partnership (CLCP) works with Washington Mill
Elementary School and assists in the development of computer skills
that enhance student achievement. Programs like: Homework Help, Girl
Talk, Over Time, Tae Kwon Do, Parent Effectiveness Training, Family
Movie Nights and Neighborhood Block Parties, and other seasonal
programs, are conducted at the Center. Residents of the community also
utilize the facility for homeowners and association meetings.
The Sacramento community and its partners continue to
seek new
and innovative ways to utilize the Center for youth as well as adults.
SNC is moving in excellence toward future partnerships and more
creative endeavors.
