United Community Ministries (UCM) receives award from

Virginia Department of Social Services under the Family and Children's Trust Fund (FACT)

…………

Alexandria, VA:   UCM is pleased to announce award from the Virginia Department of Social Services under the Family and Children's Trust Fund (FACT).  This award is being given to develop or enhance community efforts to prevent, treat or increase public awareness about all forms of family violence, including child and adult abuse and neglect, domestic violence, sexual assault, teen dating violence and suicide.

The Family and Children’s Trust Fund (FACT) was created in 1986 by the Virginia General Assembly.  Its purpose is to provide for the support and development of services for the prevention and treatment of violence within families through public and private collaboration.  For more information, please visit FACT’s website:  www.fact.state.va.us

FACT issues grants to organizations for family violence prevention, treatment and public awareness.  Grants are awarded on a competitive basis throughout Virginia to allow local programs flexibility to develop services to meet the unique needs of their families.

FACT is administered by a Board of Trustees (Board) appointed by the Governor to serve four-year terms.  The Department of Social Services provides administrative support and technical assistance to the Board to carry out its legislated mandate.

UCM is a community-based nonprofit organization serving southeastern Fairfax County since 1969.  UCM provides emergency services and programs designed for long-term independent living, reaching 9,000 individuals representing 4,000 household each year.

"UCM is grateful for FACT's support of our transitional housing program serving those fleeing domestic violence.  As partners, we are better able to address these tragic circumstances, leading to successful and life-affirming changes in the lives of the adults and children participating in this program" says UCM's Executive Director Cynthia N. Hull.
