Tax Deduction InformationThe Back Porch of UCM qualifies under the IRS code as a 501(c)3 organization, and as such, all donations received qualify as tax deductions. If you are uncertain as to whether an item qualifies for a fax deduction, consider this; if you would give the item to a friend or relative, then the item is most likely in good condition and appropriate to donate. UCM does retain the right to reject any donated item due to its condition, size and appropriateness. The U.S. Internal Revenue Service requires donors to value their donated items. UCM will not place any value on any item donated to the agency. For further assistance in valuing your donated items you may wish to consult one of the websites listed below: For further clarification, please consult the IRS Publication 561 Determining the Value of Donated Property. When filing your annual taxes (and if you itemized deductions) you will need IRS Form 8283, Noncash Charitable Contributions. At UCM, we hope that people who donate give as much thought as to where they donate their furniture, clothing and household goods as they do when they donate their money. Donors should give to charities they know and trust and who make the best use of their donations. All donations to our Back Porch Thrift Store are used to generate funds which are used in funding our programs and services to the loca community.
